Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data we collect (very little) and how we handle it.
Last updated: August 9, 2026
Overview
reaction-time-test.io is designed with a privacy-first approach. We do not require user accounts and we do not collect or store personal information on our servers. Our tests run entirely in your browser. We use Matomo for anonymized analytics. The site is also ad supported through Ezoic, and those ads involve third-party cookies and data processing that we describe in the Advertising section below. You control that part through the consent banner.
What Data We Collect
The short answer
We do not collect personal data ourselves, and your test results never leave your browser in identifiable form. We use privacy-friendly analytics (Matomo) in anonymized form only. Our advertising partner Ezoic does use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, which you can accept or reject in the consent banner.
In detail:
- No personal information: We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, location, or any other personally identifiable information.
- No user accounts: There is no registration, login, or profile system.
- Analytics (Matomo): We use Matomo to collect anonymized usage data (e.g. pages visited, referrer, device type) to improve the site. We do not use this data for advertising or to identify individuals. See the Analytics section below.
- Advertising (Ezoic): The site is funded by ads served through Ezoic. Ezoic and its partners may set cookies and collect technical data to serve and measure those ads. We do not pass them your name, email, or test results. See the Advertising section below.
Local Storage (Browser Data)
Some of our tests use your browser's localStorage to save your best scores and session history. This data:
- Is stored entirely on your device, in your browser
- Is never transmitted to our servers or any third party
- Is used solely to display your personal best and past sessions within the test interface
- Can be cleared at any time through your browser settings (clearing site data for reaction-time-test.io)
The following tests use localStorage:
Analytics (Matomo)
We use Matomo to understand how visitors use our site. Matomo is a privacy-focused analytics platform. We use it to collect anonymized data such as:
- Pages visited and approximate time on page
- Referrer (the site or search that brought you here)
- Browser and device type (e.g. desktop vs mobile)
- Rough geographic region (country-level), derived from IP, not stored in identifiable form
We do not use this data to identify you, to build advertising profiles, or to share with third parties for marketing. It is used only in aggregated form to improve the site. Matomo can use a first-party cookie to distinguish unique visits; you can opt out via your browser settings or common privacy extensions if you prefer.
Advertising (Ezoic)
This site is free because it is funded by advertising. We use Ezoic Inc. to manage and serve those ads, including interest-based advertising. Ezoic may use a range of technologies here, including first-party and third-party cookies, tags, beacons and pixels, to display ads, measure how they perform and limit how often you see the same one.
When personalized ads are served, the following may be collected, used and stored in a cookie: your IP address, operating system type and version, device type, language preference, browser type, and an email address in hashed or encrypted form. Ezoic and its partners may combine this with data collected elsewhere to build audience segments and target ads across sites, devices and apps.
You choose this. The consent banner that appears on your first visit is Ezoic's CMP, and rejecting consent means you get non-personalized ads instead of personalized ones. It does not remove ads, and it does not affect the tests, which run entirely in your browser either way. You can change your choice at any time through the banner, and you can manage cookies in your browser settings. Note that ads are never placed inside the test areas themselves.
For more detail, see Ezoic's privacy policy and its list of advertising partners. General guidance on cookies is at allaboutcookies.org, and on interest-based advertising at youradchoices.com.
Anonymous Result Statistics
When you complete one of our tests (the visual reaction test, audio reaction, F1 lights, aim trainer, or color reaction) or finish a sequence memory game, we record the result in an anonymous, aggregate statistic. We use these counts for research, for example studies on average human reaction time. Each count contains only which test it was, the result rounded into a bucket (the run's average time, or the level reached in sequence memory), a country-level location, your device type (mobile or desktop), and the hour it happened. It contains no IP address, no cookie, and no identifier of any kind, so it cannot be traced back to you. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we do not count your result at all.
Third-Party Services
We use a small number of external services to deliver the site and to measure usage. These services may process limited technical data (such as your IP address) as part of normal web requests:
- Matomo; privacy-focused analytics; see the Analytics section above.
- Ezoic; advertising, consent management and ad analytics; see the Advertising section above.
Fonts and stylesheets are served directly from our own servers; no font or CSS provider receives your requests. We do not use any social media embeds, and we do not load third-party JavaScript beyond the services listed above.
Server Logs
Like most web servers, our hosting infrastructure may automatically log basic request data such as IP addresses, browser user-agent strings, and timestamps. These logs are used solely for security monitoring and debugging, are not linked to any personal identity, and are rotated and deleted on a regular basis.
Children's Privacy
Our site is a general-audience educational tool and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we collect no personal data, there is no COPPA-applicable data to manage.
Your Rights
Because we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data for us to provide, correct, or delete. The only user data that exists is in your browser's localStorage, which you fully control and can clear at any time through your browser settings.
If you are in the EU/EEA (under GDPR) or California (under CCPA/CPRA) and have questions about your data rights, please contact us and we will respond promptly.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Our commitment to not collecting personal data ourselves is fundamental to how we built this platform, and any change to that stance would be clearly communicated.
